Water Power Technologies Office Accomplishments 2019-2020

In the recent Letter from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) Director, Alejandro Moreno covers successes achieved in 2019 and 2020.

Our team here at CalWave Power Technologies Inc. is grateful for the continued support from the WPTO that enables us to drive innovation in marine energy and all our other partners as highlighted https://calwave.energy/partners.

One especially exciting project as highlighted in the “Looking Forward to 2021” section is CalWave’s Open-Water Wave Energy Test in San Diego. During a 6-month testing campaign scheduled for 2021 in collaboration with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California, CalWave will deploy and test our wave energy converter (WEC) offshore.

CalWave’s innovative and patented design combines novel control methods enabled by a fully submerged WEC architecture, similar to how pitch control is applied in the wind energy industry. In order to directly control the energy input into the WEC, CalWave is developing load management capabilities.
